About Compassion and Empathy
It's a touching and inspiring video: I really believe that a society capable of more compassion, more empathy - regardless the race, the religion, the culture, the tradition to which we all belong - is a place that lives a great legacy to the future generations. Joan Halifax, during her amazing TED's video, talks about love and compassion: these are necessities for humans and for the entire global system, love and compassion are qualities inherited within every human being. But what is compassion? The compassion is the capacity to see into the very nature of suffering, to realize that we are not separate of that suffering and that we can engage in activities which are transforming the suffering into a new energy, into an unimaginable source of individual and community empowerment. To start to better feel compassion and empathy lets get rid of pity & fears: two among the worst enemies of compassion! She asks: if compassion and empathy are so important for the human kind, why don't we train our children in compassion? And why don't we think about training our health care providers so as they will provide us with a real better service and care? Yes, why? Dear Madam, I would dare to ask an even more challenging question: "why today, compassion and empathy aren't thought first within the families?" "Why today's parents seem totally unable to give the simple good example to their children?" I am afraid the question opens a window over an abyss. Which is the nature of today's new generation of parents: they are empty of true values and wisdom, they are fully immersed in the never ending run to opulence which atrophied their means. After all, if compassion and empathy were thought within the families - as it is supposed to be in the first instance - there would be less need to train good health care operators: wouldn't you agree? Thank you for your breathtaking TED's video.
